In Bokjeong, you’re closer to Seoul than anyone else on campus. In fact, with a 10- to 15-minute walk north along the main drag, you actually cross the border from Gyeonggi into Seoul’s southern city limits. Now that the Sinbundang express subway line goes to Jeongja, the folks living there actually get to Gangnam and Seoul faster than you do via subway, even though they’re much farther south. But the Sinbundang line is more expensive, so feel smug. ;-) You also have the greatest number of bus options to everything, since you’re closer to the action of Seoul and Gangnam. And, thanks to the two universities in the neighborhood and the resulting college vibe, Bokjeong has the greatest variety and quantity of inexpensive restaurants, coffee shops and grocery stores of all the neighborhoods -- all within walking distance. But alas -- no Starbucks. :-/
In the guide below, Bundang is the yellow subway line. If the bus entry says “n/a”, it’s not because there’s no bus route. There is ALWAYS a bus route. But the subway is almost always faster unless you’re taking an express bus (red) into Seoul. None of this stuff involves an express route into Seoul. So, n/a means the subway is faster.
How do I get to:

*Important notes for Costco: 1) Yangjae Citizens Forest and Yangjae ARE NOT THE SAME STATION! See your subway map. 2) If you are a moderate walker and don’t have a stroller or a toddler, the 15-minute walk from Yangjae Citizens Forest is almost always the faster of these two options. It takes an extra 2 minutes for the subway to get to Yangjae station (going away from Costco the entire time), then an extra 5 minutes to find the correct bus stop (there are many, with many bus routes, in all directions, even in the middle of the street -- find the one directly outside Yangjae Station entrance/exit 10), then a 1-10 minute wait for the bus, then the 08 and 20 buses stop frequently and deal with heavy traffic.
**It’s a tossup on going to Samsung Medical. I’ve tried both bus and subway. Subway is almost always faster, but only by a minute or two because of the transfer time at Suseo. Another tip: coming home, the bus drops you off closer to home than the subway does. And still another tip: If you don’t want to walk 5 minutes to Samsung, there’s a free Samsung shuttle bus that stops at Irwon Station exit 1. From Samsung, pick it up at the same place where it dropped you off. But it often has a load of elderly or partially/temporarily disabled passengers, so it can takes a while to load/unload.
